Viewing Tips

General Information

Viewing experience tips
  • Check your internet speed — a download speed of at least 10 Mbps is recommended for reliable Internet streaming
  • Connect with Ethernet when possible — a wired connection directly to your router/modem generally provides better stability than Wi-Fi
  • Use a strong Wi-Fi connection — if you're using Wi-Fi, stay within good range of your router and avoid placing it behind walls, large appliances, or other objects that may weaken the signal.
  • Limit other internet activity — depending on your service from your Internet Service Provider, downloads, gaming, video streaming, and other devices using the same connection can reduce the bandwidth available for the game.

Review your device settings:

  1. Restart your device — restarting your device can clear temporary issues that may interfere with video playback
  2. Close unnecessary apps and programs — reducing background activity leaves more resources available for the live stream
  3. Check device storage — devices that are nearly full may experience slower overall performance
Company provided device or work network

Some workplaces block streaming sites. If the video won't load on a work computer or office Wi-Fi, try a personal device on your home or mobile network.
If you are viewing from a work device and are having difficulties, contact your IT Department for assistance

Verify stream date and time

Streams go live at the scheduled start time. If you don't see video yet, double-check the date and time on the event page, ensure you have paid for the stream and refresh once the game begins.

Ensure your audio is unmuted

We have received complaints in seasons past that there is no audio on the broadcast. Our audio starts the moment the livestream has started and we are constantly monitoring our live stream for audio/video issues. If you cannot hear the live stream once started, ensure you have your audio unmuted and volume turned up

Check your internet connection
  • Before streaming an event, run a quick speed test of your connection from Fast.com
  • Make sure your connection is stable and not experiencing frequent drops
  • When possible, use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi for better reliability
  • We recommend a minimum download speed of 10 Mbps for the best viewing experience

Please Note: Slower or unstable internet connections may cause buffering, reduced video quality, or interruptions during the live stream.

Make sure you are using the correct device

For the best viewing experience, we recommend using a device with a modern web browser and a reliable internet connection.

  • Computer: A desktop of laptop is generally the most reliable option and provides a larger viewing experience.
  • Mobile Device: Smartphones and tablets can also be used. Make sure your device has sufficient battery life or keep it connected to a charger during the broadcast.
  • TV or Firestick: You may be able to watch the stream on your television by casting from another device using Chromecast, AirPlay, or a similar device. Amazon Firestick may also able to stream the broadcast if the device is updated, but the Firestick is not a reliable method

Please note: Deer Lake Red Wings live streams do not officially support Smart TV web browsers.

If you are having trouble purchasing access or loading the video directly on a Smart TV, try casting the stream from a phone or tablet instead. You can also connect a laptop or desktop computer to your TV using an HDMI cable.

If the stream is not working properly on one device and you have another device available, try opening the webcast there. This can help determine whether the issue is related to the original device.

Additional Troubleshooting

Video playback is buffering, freezing or slow

Buffering, freezing, delayed playback or interruptions can happen for a number of reasons. In many cases, the issue is related to the viewer's internet connection, Wi-Fi network, browser or device.

Common Causes

  • Internet speed or stability: Live video requires a steady connection. Even brief drops in speed can cause the stream to pause or buffer.
  • Network congestion: Internet performance can sometimes slow during busy periods, particularly during evenings or weekends.
  • Wi-Fi interference: Distance from your router, walls, other electronics or nearby Wi-Fi network can affect signal quality.
  • Other devices using your connection: Downloads, gaming, video streaming or other high-bandwidth activity in your home can reduce the connection available for the webcast
  • Device performance: Older phones, tablets, computers or other devices may have difficulty playing live video smoothly.

Things to Try

  • Pause briefly and resume: Pause the video for approximately 10-15 seconds, then press play again
  • Refresh the page: Reloading the webcast page may resolve temporary playback or connection issues.
  • Reduce other internet activity: Pause downloads, streaming services, or other bandwidth-heavy activity on devices connected to your home network.
  • Try another device: If available, open the webcast on another phone, tablet, or computer to determine whether the issue is device-specific. Firesticks are not reliable for streaming using Amazon Silk browser
  • Use a wired connection: If possible, connect your computer directly to your router with an Ethernet cable for a more stable connection.
Stream is playing but there is no sound
  • Sound starts automatically with the live stream. If you do not hear any sound coming from the live stream, ensure your speakers are not muted and your device volume is turned up
Supported streaming devices
  • Tablets: Recent iPads newer than 10 years old with updated iOS updates
  • Mobile phones: Android and iPhone released with the last 5 years
  • Desktop or Laptop: All Windows and Mac devices with updated operating systems

The stream is not limited to new devices only. Older phones and tablets will work but uninterrupted streaming is not guaranteed. Consider watching on a newer device if you face streaming issues with older hardware
